Bus catches fire in city centre

POLICE sealed off a busy road and brought traffic to a standstill after a double decker bus caught fire in the city centre.

The West Midlands Travel bus, which was out of order and had no passengers on board, was parked at a bus stop on Priory Queensway, when it suffered a suspected electrical fault just after 7pm yesterday .

The fault sparked a fire which spread quickly through the lower and upper decks.

A police cordon was set up around the burning bus and the road was closed off while crews from West Midlands Fire service attended.

Phil Bateman from WMT: "There will be an engineering inquiry into the reason of the fault and that should give us an indication of what happened."
