Train crash affects services

RAIL services between Birmingham and Coventry were affected after a train crashed into a water butt.

A train hit a water butt on the tracks at Stechford near Birmingham, just before 4pm Wednesday.

All trains between Birmingham New Street, Birmingham International and Coventry station were cancelled as a result of the incident.

Normal services resumed about three hours after the crash.

Virgin Trains services between Rugby and Stafford and between Rugby and Birmingham New Street were diverted via Nuneaton.

No Virgin trains were calling at Birmingham International station.
