Changing face of transport

A MASSIVE £176 million scheme to redevelop part of the Midland bus and train network is finally on track with more details being revealed today at a major launch.

The official unveiling of the ambitious project also heralds the start of a huge consultation project ahead of the developers seeking planning permission.

As well as bringing the city's transport links into the 21st Century the Interchange scheme is also expected to create almost 3,000 jobs.

As well as a new railway and re-modelled bus station the project, which links those two major transport hubs, will also feature a four star hotel adjacent to the train station.

In addition proposals include 114,000 sq ft of leisure facilities including restaurants, cafes and bars will be constructed at the canal basin, along with some limited retail space.

The scheme also incorporates 413,000 sq ft of office space, 215 residential units, of which 20 per cent will be 'affordable housing'.

Developers and officials were set to gather at Wolverhampton's Lighthouse centre to unveil the project in more detail.
