THE devastated parents of an eight-year-old boy who drowned today paid tribute to their "sweet little boy" as an inquest opened in Wolverhampton.

The family of Suraj Mall, who was today named for the first time, told of their pain as the hearing was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

Suraj, of Pembroke Avenue, Priestfield, got into difficulties while swimming with his parents and a yonger brother at the £12 million Wolverhampton Fitness and Leisure Centre, at Bentley Bridge, Wednesfield, on Sunday afternoon.

In a statement issued today, his distraught family said: "He was a very active, bright and intelligent boy who loved reading and always looked after his younger brother.

"We just want to thank you for giving us eight years of love and beautiful memories.

"We hope our sweet little boy will rest in peace."

Any witnesses of the tragedy are urged to contact police at Wednesfield on 0845 1135000.
