WWII Grenade found in Kingstanding house

HOUSES had to be evacuated and bomb disposal teams were called after the discovery of a Second World War hand grenade at a Birmingham home.

Police were called to Hawthorn Road, Kingstanding, at about 12.30pm yesterday after reports that a device had been found.

They cordoned off the area while bomb squad officers were called.

Upon inspection by experts the grenade was found to be inactive and the scene was declared safe. The road was re-opened shortly before 3pm.
