Birmingham woman leaps into action for love

BY tradition, women only get the chance to propose once every four years - on February 29 in a leap year.

Today, this Birmingham woman was taking advantage of that by bravely asking her boyfriend to marry her.

The 39-year-old was proposing to her partner at a secret location in the city tonight and Birmingham Mail readers have the chance to see his answer.

She said: "I have not told anybody about this but I thought the Birmingham Mail could help me make it really memorable.

"I've had to arrange it very quickly. I went out and bought the ring, after getting hold of one that he doesn't wear so I could get the right size, so I am ready to do it.

"I have never been married but I do have a son, who I think the world of. Unfortunately I did not think the same about his dad so we split up.

"Being a single mum, it is not easy to get out and about. I joined a chat site.

"I chatted to loads of guys in the safety of my home and arranged to meet a few but none of them pressed my buttons. I had a set criteria and Mr X, as we will have to call him for now, did not tick all of the boxes.

"We agreed that we both weren't what we were looking for but that we should meet up for a drink to see if we could be friends.

"We have been together ever since and I feel something for him that I have never felt for someone before. Due to this and the fact that 2008 is a leap year I will be proposing tonight."

Our video journalist and photographer will be on hand to capture the outcome and unmask the mystery lovebird.
