Greggs bakery axe doughnuts after taste test

GREGGS Bakery were in a jam as thousands of doughnuts had to be recalled from its Birmingham shops.

Customers hankering after a jam, cream or ring doughnut were left disappointed yesterday as all traces were removed before 10.30am.

A spokesman for Greggs said: "It was a precautionary move after quality control identified a possible taste problem.

"We can confirm it temporarily withdrew from sale yesterday's production run of doughnuts in the area served by its Birmingham bakery.

"The company expects to return to normal availability in shops today.

"We have received no customer complaints."

The company has 1,368 Greggs and Baker's Oven outlets across Britain with 166 outlets in Birmingham and the West Midlands.
