One quizzed after man is shot dead in the street

MURDER squad detectives were investigating today after a man died following a shooting in the Midlands.

Another man was being questioned.

The victim, aged 36, is believed to have suffered wounds to his chest in the incident, which happened at about 9.30pm in Tudor Street, Tipton.

He was taken to Russells Hall Hospital, Dudley, but despite desperate attempts to save him he died.

Tudor Street today remained closed off while police and forensic teams continued an investigation. Officers were making door-to-door inquiries.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said officers were keeping an open mind about the incident.

"We were called just before 9.30pm to Tudor Street in Tipton following reports of a man shot. The victim was taken to hospital where he later died," she said.

"One man has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody helping police with the inquiry.

"Tudor Street remains closed this morning while inquiries continue. We apologise for local disruption this may cause."

A West Midlands Ambulance spokesman said the service received four calls to the incident, the first at 9.26pm.

"We took a man into Russells Hall Hospital on blue lights. His condition was very serious and the team radioed ahead for a medical team to be placed on alert to receive him."

Anyone with information is urged to call CID at West Bromwich police station on 0845 113 5000 or crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
