New storm set to lash the Midlandsl

MIDLANDERS were again being warned to batten down the hatches as gale force winds were forecast to sweep the region tomorrow.

The Met Office has issued severe weather warnings, with forecasters expecting gales to hit the area between 6am and noon tomorrow.

Byran Chalscroft, forecaster at the Met Office, said: "The Midlands managed to escape the full brunt of the storm yesterday because the low missed the region by around 100 miles.

"However, that's not going to be the case when a new weather front comes in. There will be a swathe of severe westerly gales which will come in from Northern Ireland at around 9pm tonight and then transfer across parts of south west Scotland, northern England and north Wales before reaching the Midlands tomorrow morning at round 6am.

"Gusts of 60-70 mph are expected with the possibility of 80 mph gusts in exposed areas.

"Disruption to transport and power supplies is possible and there may be damage to buildings and trees."

"We expect the gales to die out tomorrow afternoon, but there will be plenty of rain in the Midlands for the rest of the week, and possibly into the weekend," he added.
