Man found with head injury

A MAN was fighting for life this afternoon after suffering a head injury in an incident on a Birmingham pub car park.

Police said the 49-year-old was drinking at the Heathway pub, Heathway, Shard End, on Saturday night when there was a fracas inside and a number of men went out onto the car park.

The man was later taken to hospital by friends and family after complaining of feeling unwell.

He was today critically ill in hospital.

Detectives said they were trying to piece together what had happened and appealed for drinkers in the pub to come forward.

It is understood the victim is a relative of Port Vale footballer Luke Rogers.

Det Insp Simon Vowles, from Stechford CID, said: "There was a minor fracas inside the pub and it appears various people have gone out on to the car park.

"This man has subsequently turned up with a head injury. He was taken home by friends and family. After complaining of feeling unwell, he was taken to hospital where his condition deteriorated rapidly.

"We are not sure how he has got the injury but we are investigating all the circumstances. It is possible that people are not aware of what has happened subsequently and I would appeal to anyone who can help explain what’s gone on or what the background is to come forward."

Police at Stechford can be contacted on 0845 113 5000.
