Delight over re-opening of Severn Valley Railway

Severn Valley Railway

TOMORROW'S re-opening of the flood-hit Severn Valley Railway has been welcomed by Euro-MP Liz Lynne.

"After seeing the devastation last October, I am thrilled that everyone has pulled together to get the repairs done at last," said Ms Lynne (Lib Dem, West Midlands).

"In particular, the public response to the funding appeal was terrific.

"Large sections of the route had to be completely rebuilt and this is a fantastic achievement.

"I wish the Severn Valley Railway team all the very best for a busy upcoming season."

Ms Lynne added: "At last people will be able to see the new facilities which should have opened last summer."

More than £2.5 million of damage was caused on the 16-kilometre line with a total of 45 separate areas needing repair work after flood water caused the ground to slip away last summer.

Good Friday) marks the full re-opening of the historic line from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth, via Bewdley, and hundreds of visitors are expected to pour in over the Easter weekend.
