Boost for grassroots football

MINORITY groups are being offered cash to support the development of football across Birmingham.

Football's anti-racism and inclusion campaign, Kick It Out, and the Football Foundation have joined together to offer development grants of up to £2,000 to help grassroots clubs develop closer links within mainstream football.

The grants are available for women and young people from minority groups, refugees and travellers and religious organisations.

Piara Powar, of Kick It Out, said: "The passion for football within minority communities is clear to see. However, some groups are not receiving the opportunities to receive formal coaching, become coaches or even play.

"We are looking for applications from groups who are working within these communities or want to reach out."

To find out more about the grant visit www.kickitout.org. The deadline for applications is April 7 and successful projects will be notified by April 21.
