Green waste charges ahead

BROMSGROVE District Council's green waste collections restarted this week.

But from 2009 the council plans to charge residents who wish to continue using the service.

The programme will be rolled out throughout April, with residents having their bins emptied on the same day as their recycling boxes, as they were before the scheme was suspended in December.

Householders should refer to their refuse and recycling calendars to establish the date for their individual collection day and what can and can't be put in their green bins.

Anna Wardell, the council's waste policy and promotions manager, said: "Residents will be able to use their green wheeled bins for grass cuttings, weeds, cut flowers and clippings.

"Kitchen waste, rubble and animal waste, however, must not be disposed of in this way. Residents can also use their garden waste to make their own compost."

The garden waste collections will run until the end of November.
