School closed after teacher's death

A PRIMARY school teacher who was killed in a road accident has been named as Melanie Till.

Chadsmoor Infants School in Cannock, Staffordshire, was closed yesterday as a mark of respect but is expected to reopen this morning.

Police said Miss Till, 38, died after the silver Peugeot 206 which she was driving crashed on the A34 at around 1.15am yesterday.

Miss Till, of Colliers Way, Huntington, was driving towards Cannock and was around half a mile from the Pottal Pool roundabout, the junction with Broadhurst Green Road, when she crashed.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said she was confirmed dead at the scene after her car collided with a telephone pole.

A spokesman said: “On arrival the community paramedic officer immediately assessed the condition of the patient.

“The damage to the vehicle was severe and the woman had suffered very serious injuries and unfortunately, it was not possible to save her.”

A spokeswoman for Staffordshire County Council said yesterday: “We can confirm that a member of teaching staff from Chadsmoor Infants School was involved in a road traffic accident in the early hours of this morning, where they tragically lost their life.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with the family at this tragic time.”

Staffordshire Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash to call Pc Michael Percival on 0845 302010.
