Parents pay for bad kids
PARENTS could be sentenced to community service for the crimes of their child, under proposals backed by Conservative Chair Caroline Spelman.
The Shadow Cabinet member and MP for Meriden called for reforms to the law allowing courts to order parents to be punished alongside their children.
Mothers and fathers could pick up litter or scrub graffiti off walls side by side with youngsters, she said.
The plans are not yet party policy but the Conservatives are "listening" to demands that parents share responsibility for the crimes of their children.
Legal experts warned the plans would potentially breach human rights legislation.
