Woman is injured in car crash

A WOMAN is fighting for her life in hospital after a two-car crash in the Black Country which left two other people seriously injured.

The 45-year-old woman, from Oldbury, who was a passenger in a Honda Civic car involved in the crash at Rowley Regis, suffered life-threatening internal injuries.

The driver, a 54-year-old man also from Oldbury, suffered a suspected broken collar-bone and ankle injuries, while another of his passengers - a 17-year-old girl - received spinal injuries.

All three today remained in hospital with the woman in a critical condition and the man and teenage girl serious but stable.

The driver of the other car involved - a Volvo - fled the scene but was later arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

Details of the head-on crash, which happened in Powke Lane, Rowley Regis, about 8.20pm on Saturday, have only just been released.

Police said today it was believed the grey Volvo estate was travelling along Powke Lane when it collided head-on with the Honda, which was heading towards Blackheath.

A 32-year-old local man was later arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. He has been granted police bail pending further inquiries.
