Police officers injured in car smash

FIVE police officers were injured when a tow truck ploughed into two panda cars in a town centre.

The incident happened when officers went to investigate reports of a group of men acting suspiciously around a vehicle parked in Town Wharf, Walsall.

But as they fled the scene in the tow truck, at around 9.30pm on Monday night, they collided with two police cars in George Street and Bridge Street.

Five police officers, who were in the cars at the time, suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision but none of them needed hospital treatment.

The truck failed to stop and any witnesses are urged to contact CID at Walsall Police on 0845 113 5000.
