Dead body found on motorway

PART of a motorway in the Black Country was sealed off after the body of an elderly man was found on the hard shoulder.

The body - that of a 64-year-old man - was found underneath the Churchill Road bridge on the M6 between Junctions 10 and 10A at Bentley, Walsall, just before 4am yesterday.

It is believed the man, who lived locally, had fallen off the bridge.

Relatives have been informed of the tragedy and inquiries were continuing today.

Black Country Coroner Robin Balmain was being informed of the incident today and a post mortem was to be arranged.

The grim discovery led to the cordoning-off of the hard shoulder and inside lane of the motorway for six hours by the police to enable a forensic examination of the area.

Insp Steve Lloyd of Bloxwich police said officers were keeping an open mind as to the cause of the man's death.

Injuries were found on his body but it was not believed a vehicle was involved.
