Festival call for Humph tribute

ORGANISERS of the Lichfield Festival have added their voices to the tributes following the death of jazz legend Humphrey Lyttleton.

The trumpeter and presenter of the popular BBC Radio panel game I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue died last week at the age of 86.

And the popular musician, whose varied career even saw him record with rock legends Radiohead, was due to play with his band in Lichfield Cathedral as part of the 2008 Lichfield Festival in July.

Richard Hawley, festival director, said: "We were deeply saddened to hear of Humph's death.

"He had appeared many times in the Festival, and we were all looking forward to welcoming him and his band back to Lichfield once again.

"He was also going to be sharing anecdotes about his long life with a festival audience and reading from his recent autobiography It Just Occured To Me."

Mr Hawley added that news on what will now happen withthe two events Mr Lyttleton, who was also a patron of the Birmingham Jazz Festival, was due to perform on July 11 will be announced as soon as possible.
