Gok Wan in Birmingham

TELEVISION style guru Gok Wan burst into Birmingham in quest to find the nation's most fashionable people.

Instead of asking people to strip off, the star of Channel 4’s How To Look Good Naked was encouraging Brummies to strut their stuff on a catwalk in the city centre wearing their best clobber.

The catwalk show in St Martin’s Square yesterday was filmed for Gok’s new TV series Gok’s Clothes Roadshow, set to be screened later this summer.

The programme, which is being filmed in nine cities, will be using real people instead of models to show off the latest high street designs and is aimed at proving that people of all ages, shapes and sizes can look good fully clothed.

The most stylish person from each of the cities visited by Gok will battle it out for the crown of Britain’s best fashionista, which will see them win an all expenses paid shopping trip to New York.

Leicester-born Gok told the Birmingham Mail he knows the city and its fashion, well.

"Birmingham has lots of style," he said. "I used to come here to the clubs and the shops. And it is even better now, just look at the Bullring."

And Gok was finding lots of local people for his catwalk.

"It doesn’t matter what size you are, you can still have style," he said. "And it doesn’t matter whether you are spending £5 or £500 - it is all about individual creativity. You can wear a gold lame suit and still have style."

Channel 4 also wants to find out people’s favourite items of clothing and receive photographs of them looking stylish, which can be emailed to stylish@endemoluk.com

* FOUR lucky Birmingham Mail competition winners won the chance for a style makeover with help from Gok. See the results in Monday’s Shopping pages.
