Irish pies are smiling for Cut the Cost winner

Joy Haywood

JOY Haywood will have to ditch any summer diet resolutions after becoming the fourth lucky winner in the Birmingham Mail's Cut the Cost competition.

The 46-year-old from Great Barr has just won a meal out for two every week for the next year at O'Neills, Broad Street, by correctly answering that the bar is Irish-themed.

After working hard as a paediatric nurse at City Hospital, Joy can now look forward to a delicious meal from the bar's Taste of Ireland menu and soak up the friendly atmosphere without worrying about the cost.

Joy, who has two children, James aged 19 and Laura, 15, said: "I just texted the answer, but didn't think I was going to win.

"I don't enter competitions that often, and the last time I won something was a TV when I was 19 at a raffle.

"I have had a drink at O'Neills on Broad Street but I haven't eaten there before. I like Irish food because I have a lot of Irish friends."

Joy, of Booths Farm Road, will be spoilt for choice having to choose from O'Neills mouth watering menu of Limerick Ham & Cheddar Quiche, Soda Bread, Steak and Guinness Pie and the All day Breakfast, to name a few of the dishes on offer.

"It's so nice to have a free meal every week, especially in this economic climate when we are watching the pennies and especially as I have teenagers who want all the latest gadgets.

"I'm sure my daughter is looking forward to going with me.

"We eat occasionally, but it's usually around Great Barr, and it will be so nice to go to O'Neills," Joy said.
