Pallasades proud of Brum's good citizens

JONATHAN Cheetham, general manager of The Pallasades, said: "We are continually aware of the importance of the Local Hero Award and I am delighted that Kate has been recognised this month for her heroic actions.

"It just shows the type of people that make up Birmingham."

The Pallasades' efforts to recognise the best in the community does not stop with the Local Heroes Award. During an awards ceremony on April 10, 14-year-old Rachel Garbett was crowned the Most Improved Young Sportsperson 2008.

The honour looked for those who may not be the best at their sport, but have come a long way in a short time or those who have overcome a severe setback.

Rachel, a pupil at King Edward VI School, won an Oswald Bailey rucksack, a Poundland sports pack, and vouchers for Foot-locker, Argos, HMV and Woolworths worth £155.

Tom Ross, head of sport at BRMB, Marcia McKenzie, assistant manager at Olympus Sports, and Roger Clarke, Mail sports writer, chose the winner and runners-up Guy Slater-Haris, Baasil Ahmed and Jordan McGrath.
