Man crushed to death at recycling unit

A MAN has crushed to death in an industrial accident, West Midlands Police said today.

Emergency services were called to Sita Recycling UK, on Coneygre Industrial Estate, Burnt Tree, Tipton, yesterday morning.

An ambulance, a rapid response car and an incident support officer were sent.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Crews found a man who had suffered serious crush injuries from a large piece of machinery at the recycling unit.

“Despite the best efforts of ambulance staff, nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

A police spokesman said the matter was not being treated as suspicious, and had been passed on to the Health and Safety Executive.

“Officers were called at 11.20am to a commercial premises on Coneygre Industrial Estate following reports of a man having suffered serious injuries.

“Officers and paramedics attended the location and a man, aged 21, was pronouced dead at the scene.

“The Health and Safety Executive was informed and have attended the scene.

“An inquiry will be launched into the man’s death.”
