MORE than a thousand disadvantaged and disabled children were in Wonderland as they enjoyed a very special tea party yesterday to celebrate the end of the school term.

A host of 150 volunteer entertainers helped welcome in the summer at the special Alice in Wonderland charity bash at the Botanical Gardens in Edgbaston.

The grand jamboree included Barclays Bank staff dressed up as Alice in Wonderland and other fairytale characters, including Alice and the Mad Hatter.

There were also special appearances from a lookalike Mr Bean, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Pavarotti.

The biggest ever party for disadvantaged children in the region was organised by Birmingham and Solihull businessman Stephen Goldstein.

The children and adults were also entertained by the Playbox Theatre Company who performed acts from their hit show, Monkey.

They were also entertained by clowns, jugglers, face painters and mime artists.
