Museum plea over old chippy in Dudley

Hobbs Fish and Chip Shop

THE Black Country Living Museum is fishing for family links to a chippy which stood in Dudley for decades.

Officials at the Tipton Road site are hoping people will dish up tasty memories of Hobbs and Sons fish and chip shop, which stood in Hall Street until 2006.

The shop is being reconstructed at the museum as part of a major development project part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.

Musuem director Ian Walden said: “To help ensure the accurate reconstruction of this much loved local building which we saved from demolition, we are keen to hear from anyone with family connections or memories of the shop.

“Throughout its life in Hall Street, the distinctive shop was extensively developed and modernised.

“We need to know what the shop looked like way back in 1935 and hope that photographs of the inside or outside from the last 70 years will help us piece together its history.

“We are also looking for information about the shop next door, which was once Ashmore’s tailors.”
