Birmingham cyclist Paul Manning wins Olympic gold medal

SUTTON Coldfield cyclist Paul Manning struck gold at the Olympic Games in Beijing today – and broke the world record again into the bargain.

Manning, along with Bradley Wiggins, Ed Clancy and Geraint Thomas, raced to victory in the men’s team pursuit in a time of 3:53.314, finishing ahead of Denmark. “It was an incredible feeling to be part of that,” said Manning, aged 33.

Today’s gold means he now has a full set of Olympic medals for he represented Team GB in the team pursuit at both Athens and Sydney, taking bronze in 2000 and silver in 2004.
