Man seriously injured in Digbeth crash
A MAN was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash which closed a major route out of Birmingham.
Emergency services were called to Digbeth High Street at 12.25pm today following a road traffic collision.
The outbound carriageway was cordoned off by police between Oxford Street and Heath Mill Lane and diversions were put in place.
Police crash investigators could be seen examining a motorbike left lying in the middle of the carriageway.
A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “Officers were called to an incident near the coach station in Digbeth at 12.25pm.
“A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. There are road closures in the area.”
West Midlands Ambulance Service received several 999 emergency calls to reports of a car and a motorcycle being in a collision in Milk Street.
Two ambulances were sent to the scene.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "When crews arrived they found a man on the road some distance away from his motorcycle. Crews were not aware of any other vehicle at the scene and it was unclear what had caused the incident.
"Crews immediately started resuscitation attempts on the man. He was immobilised using a neck collar and spinal board before being transferred on blue lights to City Hospital whilst emergency treatment continued.
"Medics were on standby awaiting the arrival of the man who was in a very serious condition."
