Post mortem to be carried out on boy shot with airgun
A POST mortem examination has been ordered on a Birmingham toddler who was shot in the head.
Rashid Ullah was injured by a pellet from an air rifle believed to have been fire accidentally by his sister at the family home in Bennetts Road, Saltley, nine days ago.
The boy lost his fight for life at Birmingham Children’s Hospital on Monday.
At the opening of an inquest, the Birmingham and Solihull Coroner, Mr Aidan Cotter, said that it had been agreed that a forensic Home Office pathologist would carry out an examination of the boy’s body to try and ensure that everything that could be done had been done.
“What I don’t want to happen is for the funeral to take place and rumours to start circulating about what has happened. What appears to have happened is quite bad enough by itself .”
Mr Cotter said it was likely that Rashid’s body would be released for burial later today, and adjourned the inquest to a date to be fixed.
Evidence of identity was given by the boy’s father, Bakht Zaman, who said his son had been born in Birmingham.
