Birmingham's bronze bull given makeover

The Bronze Bull

BIRMINGHAM’S iconic bronze bull statue is expected to be unveiled under a new guise today when it turns silver.

Laurence Broderick’s five tonne statue is believed to have been repainted silver to publicise the Bullring shopping centre’s fifth birthday celebrations.

The twice lifesize sculpture which sits at the entrance to the shopping centre has been under wraps for the last few days to ensure there are no sneak glimpses of its new look.

Bullring general manager Tim Walley would not confirm whether the 2.2m high bull had turned metallic but agreed it was receiving a temporary ‘makeover’.

He added: “We are keeping the makeover a secret until the big unveiling and don’t wish to ruin the surprise.

“Since the bronze bull has become such an important symbol for regeneration and development in Birmingham, this is a new look just for the 5th birthday and we have not made any permanent alterations to the iconic sculpture.”
