Worcestershire receives a message from The Queen

Flooding at Worcestershire's New Road ground

WORCESTERSHIRE residents left reeling by the recent flooding have been sent a message of support from Her Majesty The Queen.

She has sent a personal note to all those affected by the rising waters through the Lord Lieutenant, Michael Brinton.

Recent flooding to the county has left many people facing the clear up operation once more.

The note, signed Elizabeth R, said: “Please convey my sympathy to all those whose homes or livelihoods have been afflicted by the recent flooding and to all the families who have been displaced. My thoughts are especially with those affected communities still recovering from the damage of the floods in 2007.

“I have admired the unstinting relief efforts of the emergency services and local authorities, working in difficult conditions. Please extend my thanks to everyone assisting in these distressing circumstances, in particular to the many volunteers doing so much to help others.”

Michael Brinton, Lord Lieutenant, added: “I would like to add my own message of sympathy to all those who are once again suffering from the devastating effects of flooding, both to their homes, and their farms and businesses. I hope that the message from Her Majesty will bring some comfort to them. "

Cllr Alwyn Davies, Chairman of Worcestershire County Council, said: “After the recent rain I was saddened to learn that parts of the County were flooded again.

"Whilst exceptional heavy rainfall was the root cause, nevertheless I share the concerns of all those whose houses and businesses have been affected. I understand our teams worked over the weekend with the emergency services and I thank those staff for their hard work. Everything possible must be done to attempt to alleviate future problems.”
