Cars fall off as transporter hits city centre bridge
MOTORISTS in Birmingham narrowly avoided a horror crash when two cars were sent crashing to the ground when a transporter went under a city centre railway bridge.
The car transporter was driving along Park Street when it is thought two vehicles on the upper deck clipped the underside of the 14ft 9in high bridge at about 11.30am.
A red Renault Megane and a blue Rover 400 were knocked to the ground.
Eye-witnesses said the vehicles narrowly missed a Mercedes car was driving along the transporter beneath the bridge, which runs from Moor Street station.
Horrice Evans, managing director of metal press works Fred Baker Ltd, said: “We head a big crash and came out to see the vehicles on the road.
“Thankfully no one was seriously hurt but if someone had been behind it when the cars came down they could have been seriously hurt.”
Diversions were put in place while the cars were moved.
