Karren Brady joins stars for diversity awards bash
BIRMINGHAM City director Karren Brady helped to celebrate Britain’s diversity when she rubbed shoulders with celebrities at a glittering awards bash.
Karren, who lives in Solihull, was among the stars who turned out for the GG2 Leadership and Diversity Awards at London’s Grosvenor Hotel yesterday.
Dragon’s Den entrepreneur James Caan was named Man Of The Year in the event’s 10th year.
Other winners included Yasmin Jetha, the chief operating officer of the Financial Times, for her achievements in breaking through the glass ceiling.
Launched in 1999, the awards showcase ethnic achievement and are hosted by the Asian Media and Marketing Group.
Wolverhampton-born actress and comedienne Meera Syal also attended and revealed she still struggled against gender discrimination at work.
“I think there is a glass ceiling,” she said. “You do get gender discrimination, especially in my profession.
“In the way men and women are cast. When women get to a certain age you end up playing the mad grannies and characters like that. We are supposed to be equal now, but hah! So this is a cause that’s very close to my heart.”
