Man rescued after Digbeth scaffold fall

A MAN was rescued by using a “cherry picker” after being trapped when he fell from scaffolding in the city centre.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to Heath Mill Lane, in Digbeth, just before lunch yesterday.

An ambulance, incident support officer and an urban search and rescue team were dispatched to the scene. An ambulance arrived within five minutes of the 999 call.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “On arrival at the scene crews found a worker, a man believed to be in his late 30s, who had fallen whilst working on some scaffolding.

“The man, who had dislocated his shoulder during the fall, was stuck on the second floor of the scaffolding. Due to the limited access of the incident site the crew on scene requested the additional help of the urban search and rescue team, who are specially trained to treat patients in hazardous areas or incidents where access is difficult.

“The man was treated on the scene and rescued from the scaffolding using a ‘cherry picker’ that was based on the building site.”
