London 2012 here we come, say Wilson Stuart School

PUPILS at a Birmingham special school took a keen interest in the closing ceremony at this year’s Paralympic Games in China.

Thousands of miles away in Erdington, pupils and staff of Wilson Stuart School and Sports College, staged their own handover ceremony after watching the event on a large screen.

Wilson Stuart School exchanged goodwill messages with its partner school, Lungisa High, in South Africa, both for the success of the Football World Cup in South Africa in 2010 and for the London Paralympics.

Pupils wore different coloured ponchos to make up a giant South African flag in the playground, before repeating the exercise to create the famous Olympic rings.

Workshops were also held exploring Olympic and Paralympic values, while a flag bearing the Paralympic 2012 logo was raised in the school hall involving Wilson Stuart ambassadors Abdul Waheed and Rachel Morgan-Ewing.

Pupil Jade Insley, aged 16, UK record holder in the 100m and 200m, is looking for sponsorship for the 2012 Paralympics in London.
