Security guard Kevin Logan a hero for the second time

Brave security guard Kevin Logan.

A SECURITY guard who was attacked with hammers and a crossbow as he fended off supermarket raiders has been fighting crime again – this time detaining a suspected mugger.

Brave Kevin Logan leapt into action when an 80-year-old pensioner was shoved to the ground after having a purse ripped from her hands outside the Aldi store where he works.

The 38-year-old dashed across the car park and managed to drag a man to the ground, holding him down with the help of two customers until police arrived.

Wednesday afternoon’s incident came almost seven weeks after he tackled three armed thugs who had burst into the Bordesley Green branch.

Mr Logan was left with head injuries after being repeatedly battered with hammers and shot in the arm with a crossbow as he sent the gang packing.

Despite his latest bravery, Mr Logan said he didn’t consider himself a hero and praised passers-by for also stepping in.

“I saw this guy talking to a lady and thought he was asking for change for a trolley when I saw him snatch the purse,” he said.

“She was holding on to it and she was pushed to the floor.

“He ran off so I just ran in front of him, grabbed him and threw him to the floor. Two customers came to help until police were called.

“The lady was very brave because she stood up to fight back.

“So were the customers who joined in. We work there, people shop there, no-one wants anything to happen to any of us.

“I think if criminals believe that they won’t just be challenging one person but that other people might involved, they might think twice about it.”

Police again praised Mr Logan for his actions.

Det Sgt Mark Burnell, from Stechford Robbery Team, said the victim was shaken but not physically injured.

A 48-year-old man was arrested and later charged with robbery.

Meanwhile, detectives were continuing to hunt for the gang behind the attempted robbery at the store on August 1. The men are thought to be behind at least three other raids on supermarkets.
