MIDLAND Paralympic star Eleanor Simmonds received a light-hearted invitation to join the Cabinet at a bash to celebrate Britain’s Beijing gold rush.

The 13-year-old swimmer, from Walsall, was picked out for special mention by the Prime Minister at a reception for members of the squad at the British Museum in London. Gordon Brown joked that Eleanor, the youngest ever individual Paralympic gold medallist, should join his next Cabinet meeting so she could “make better decisions than we do”.

He told the squad: “I hope you’ve managed to witness, since you’ve been back from Beijing, how much the British public supports you.”
