Plea after armed robbery

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an armed robbery in the Midlands.

Two men wearing balaclavas and gloves burst into a convenience store in Bidford Way, in Cannock, and threatened staff and customers with a firearm and baseball bat.

One entered the post office area and forced a worker at gunpoint to fill a bag full of cash.

Three staff and three customers inside the shop during the raid at about 1.10pm yesterday were treated for shock but not injured.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said the men escaped in a white Escort, stolen from the Penkridge area of Cannock the previous night, and made off with a substantial amount of money.

The Escort was then dumped in Cannock’s Longford Green district.

* Anyone with information about the robbery or the escape car is asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 0300 123 4455 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
