£200k worth of cocaine seized
A MASSIVE haul of cocaine worth at least £200,000 on the streets has been seized by investigators as it was being smuggled into Birmingham.
Officers from the UK Border Agency found five kilos of drugs hidden in a suitcase and laptop bag.
A field test indicated that it was cocaine. The drugs are valued at around £200,000, although this would have doubled or even trebled once ‘cut’ by drug dealers and sold on the streets, a Customs spokesman said.
Polish national, Krzysztof Zoledziejewski, 24, of Gorzow, Wielkopolski, was arrested in connection with the discovery as he arrived on a flight from Cancun, Mexico last Friday.
Zoledziejewski was due to appear at Solihull Magistrates court today charged with drug smuggling offences under the Customs and Excise Management Act 1979.
HM Revenue & Customs Senior Investigation Officer John, Theobald, said: “The success of this latest operation highlights our proactive role in reducing drugs being brought into the UK.
“Our priority is to wipe out illegal drugs and their availability on city streets. We hope our efforts will reduce the devastating impact drugs have on individuals as well as the wider effect on communities.”
