Members of the RSPB met in Sutton Park so birds could be ringed and tracked as they migrate

TWITCHERS in Birmingham ignored the poor weather to focus on birds who are set to escape the winter by migrating.

Members of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds met up in Sutton park for the event at the weekend.

Hollie Kent, from the RSPB, caught blue tits, green finches, robins, goldfinches, redwings and a host of other exotic birds in huge mist nets at the park’s Longmore Pool.

Stefan Bodnar, a licensed bird ringer, then fixed rings on some of the birds before releasing them so ornithologists around the world can learn more about the birds’ behaviour and movements as they migrate to warmer climes this autumn.
