SCHOOLFRIENDS put out the flags for star footballer Kerys Harrop as she prepared to join the England squad for the women’s World Cup.

The Under-20s tournament in Chile kicks off on next Wednesday and 17-year-old Kerys, from Halesowen, was given a great send-off by fellow pupils at King Edward VI sixth-form college at Stourbridge.

Centre-back Kerys said she could not wait for the championships to get under way.

“There are 16 countries taking part and I am in the squad of 21.

“Obviously I am hoping I will get my chance and if I do I need to be ready to grab it with both hands,” added Kerys.

Kerys will be 18 on December 3 and is hoping it will be a fantastic double celebration for her, with the women’s World Cup final taking place four days later.

“It’s going to be a wonderful experience,” said Kerys.
