Fire on M6 toll causes traffic chaos

A FIRE caused motorway jams for thousands of Midland rush hour drivers after a van containing dangerous chemicals burst in to flames.

Emergency services were called to Junction 1 of the southbound M6 Toll Road at 7.40am after the vehicle was reported to be on fire.

Two lanes of the motorway, close to the junction with the M42, were closed while firefighters cooled tanks of argon gas, which is used in the metalwork industry.

No-one was hurt.
