Jail for Sparkhill identity theft con men
Nov 27 2008 by Mark Cowan, Birmingham Mail
FRAUD cops today welcomed the jailing of three men who stole innocent people’s identity in order to con tens of thousands of pounds from banks.
The gang used their unsuspecting victim’s good credit ratings to apply for loans and then used cheque cashing stores to get their hands on the money.
It is believed they had got away with at least £30,000 before the plot was thwarted when undercover officers lay in wait for the men to cash one of the bankers’ drafts.
Police were lying in wait when one of the men came to cash a cheque.
Alan Hall, 49, from Winson Green, attempted to flee but was arrested after a chase.
