Firefighter dies after 999 call-out in Bloxwich

BLACK Country firefighters were in mourning today after one of their colleagues died following a call-out.

Brian Dean, aged 49, from Blue Watch at Bloxwich Fire Station, suffered a suspected heart attack at around 10pm yesterday.

Colleagues fought to save Mr Dean’s life with emergency equipment on board their fire engine, but he later died at Walsall Manor Hospital.

The crew had just attended an incident involving an overturned car in Glastonbury Crescent, Bloxwich.

A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said: “It is with sadness that West Midlands Fire Service announces the death of one of its firefighters on duty last night.

“Despite the valiant efforts of his colleagues using a defibrillator carried on the fire engine and the assistance of West Midlands Ambulance Service, Brian lost his fight for life in Walsall Manor Hospital shortly afterwards.”

Acting Chief Fire Officer Vij Randeniya today paid tribute to Mr Dean, describing the firefighter’s death as a shock to everyone.
