Funeral service held for Khyra Ishaq

The funeral of Khyra Ishaq at the Salafi Masjid mosque in Small Heath

SCORES of mourners gathered for the funeral of seven-year-old Khyra Ishaq, who was finally laid to rest today six months after she allegedly starved to death.

Grieving family and friends attended the youngster’s funeral held at the Salafi Mosque in Small Heath.

Her father, Ishaq Abu Zaire was among a group of six men who carried Khyra’s coffin into the mosque, following weekly Friday morning prayer session.

Khyra died after paramedics were called to her family home in Leyton Road, Handsworth, in the early hours of May 17.

Her mother, Angela Gordon, 34, and partner Junaid Abuhamza, 30, are facing charges of murder and neglect over the death. They remain in police custody.
