Heartlands Hospital staff to perform show to mark 60 years of NHS

DOCTORS and nurses in Birmingham are swapping their scrubs for sequins for a show tonight to celebrate 60 years of the NHS.

Staff at Heartlands Hospital are staging a glittering music and dance extravaganza – Life & Times – telling the story of the health service over six decades of change.

The cast, made up of 25 singers and 15 dancers, is drawn from staff in a wide range of roles at the hospital, from support workers such as telephonists and secretaries to doctors, consultants and ward sisters.

Members of the cast have given up their evenings and weekends over the last nine months to prepare for tonight at the ICC, with a professional choreographer and a vocal coach, trained at Birmingham’s Conservatoire, teaming up to put the cast through their paces.
