Birmingham Mail Spy’s up against the best

The Birmingham Mail's Paul Fulford gets in a tangle with his pasta at the Good Food Show at the NEC.

THE Birmingham Mail’s Restaurant Spy Paul Fulford will more than meet his match tonight when he takes part in a special cookery programme with Michelin-starred chef Andy Waters.

In Real Cooks, Paul visits a turkey farm to select the finest bird.

After taking viewers into his own kitchen, he reveal the secrets of his own Christmas turkey dinner before Andy, who runs Edmunds restaurant in Brindleyplace, arrives to taste it.

The tables are turned in part two, when Andy rustles up his version of the festive feast in time for Paul to make his own comments.

Paul said: “Taking the part in the programme was quite nerve-wracking yet really good fun. I wasn’t trying to offer Michelin-starred food myself, but to present a quite traditional, rustic-style Christmas dinner.”

Real Cooks, which will be seen from 10.30pm on ITV1 tonight, has been produced by sisters Rebecca and Rowena Lyon.

Assistant producer Rebecca said: “Both Andy and Paul made a traditional Christmas dinner followed by a dessert using poached pears.

“This is our third programme and for the Christmas special we thought we would put a nice spin on it by using a newspaper restaurant critic instead of a keen amateur cook.”
