Midlands troops in Iraq and Afghanistan get home treat

MIDLANDS troops serving in foreign war zones over Christmas were today given some festive cheer – as they found out their families had recorded special video messages for them to watch on Christmas Day.

And thanks to the wonders of technology their families back in the Midlands will also be able to see their loved ones as dozens of soldiers pre-recorded their own messages home for them to see.

Among the brave men and women serving in Afghanistan over Christmas is Sergeant Luke Townsin, aged 28, from Ashby-De-la-Zouch, who is currently in Kandahar with the Royal Engineers.

His fiancée, recruitment consultant Lucy Talbot, aged 29, has recorded a special video message for him to watch when he takes a break from building a new runway in the blazing heat on Christmas Day.

Lucy said: “It’s really horrible being away from Luke over Christmas and I always worry about him.
