New book on Birmingham stained-glass window artist Albert Lemmon

A MIDLAND academic has published a book on one of Birmingham’s finest artists.

Roy Albutt spent three years researching the life and works of Albert Edward Lemmon (1889-1963), a stained-glass window designer born in the slums of Ladywood.

The book contains photographs of about 60 of Lemmon’s windows, which are in churches in West Bromwich, Birmingham and Bromsgrove, as well as chapels as far afield as New Zealand.

Mr Albutt, aged 70, from Pershore in Worcestershire, said: “I had some help with the research from Lemmon’s son, Peter, who has now died, and I also spoke to some people who used to work in Lemmon’s studio.”
