Mosley man to appear in court for Edgbaston road death charge

A MOTORIST was appearing in court today charged with causing the death of a city pensioner in a road smash in Birmingham.

Police said the 28-year-old Moseley man is due to appear before city magistrates charged with causing death by dangerous driving, drink driving and other motoring offences.

The collision between a Lexus LS400 and a Nissan Almera, happened shortly after 5.30am on Sunday at the junction with City Road and Portland Road in Edgbaston.

The driver of the Almera, a 77-year-old man from Birmingham, died in the collision. He has not yet been named.

The 28-year-old Lexus driver suffered cuts and bruising.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival at the scene, crews found two cars that had been in a significant collision.

“The occupant of one car had sustained serious injuries and unfortunately, despite the best efforts of ambulance crews, nothing could be done to save him.”
