Frank Bruno in city to launch free inner-city gym offer

BOXING hero Frank Bruno will be pulling no punches when he reveals a scheme giving residents in Birmingham’s inner-city free gym membership.

Bruno will unveil the Change4Life campaign from Heart of Birmingham Primary Care Trust today at Handsworth Leisure Centre, in Holly Road.

It will mean anyone living in a Heart of Birmingham postcode will be able to use Birmingham City Council’s gyms, pools and some classes for no fee. Health bosses hope the scheme will tackle the city’s growing obesity problem among both adults and children by tempting them into doing more regular exercise.

A Primary Care Trust spokesman said: “As part of the scheme, we aim to provide people from deprived areas of Birmingham with free gym and swimming sessions at local leisure centres, providing they sign up and attend at least four times a month.”
